PAULA CRAIOVEANU EXHIBTS HER PAINTINGS AT THE LA ART SHOW – MODERN + CONTEMPORARY – 2022, with bG GALLERY, Santa Monica

Amphibian Man and Nude in Morning Light will be on display with bG Gallery, Santa Monica, JANUARY 19 – 23, 2022, at the LOS ANGELES ART SHOW in the MODERN+CONTEMPORARY section.

The male nude – Amphibian Man – is an imaginary construction of different influences. Not many women have been painting nude men. The author’s series of scenes featuring nude men are the expression of what is known as the “female gaze” in contemporary art. They are examples of cinematic expressive and sensual figures, inspired by cinema and media culture at large including social media, mixing feminine and masculine traits. The androgynous figure is an object of reflection and admiration, the author’s own view and personal idea of beauty.

While the female nude is vulnerably human and real, the male nude seems to be sprung from the artist’s subconscious. The 2 paintings come together as a pair in an intriguing dance.

“The wonderful Romanian artist, Paula Craioveanu, is the holder of a PhD in visual arts and a feminine figure of authoritative energy in the world of the arts, including architecture. She speaks out against the views of femininity as a sign of weakness and instead states that it is a virtue, “an expression of sensibility and we should not deny it. Due to these qualities they have, women are more gifted for art and beauty”.
